Common questions

What is an ISP?
An internet service provider (ISP) is the company that connects your home or phone to the internet, such as a cable, fiber or mobile network operator.
Why does it show a different company than the one I pay?
The lookup reports who owns the network address you appear from. Some providers resell another company's network, and mobile and business connections can show the carrier or hosting company behind them.
Why is my location wrong?
An IP address only gives an approximate position, usually the city or region where your provider routes traffic. It can be off by many kilometers and never shows your street.
Why does it show a VPN or a different country?
If you use a VPN, proxy or some corporate or school networks, websites see that service's address instead of yours. Turn it off and refresh to see your own provider.
Is my IP address private?
Every site you visit can see your public IP address. It does not reveal your name or exact address by itself. We do not store the lookup.
