What is Ping?
Ping is the time it takes for a data packet to travel from your device to a server and back. It’s measured in milliseconds (ms) and indicates the responsiveness of your connection. A lower ping means a faster, more responsive connection, which is crucial for online gaming, video calls, and other real-time applications.
What is Jitter?
Jitter is the variation in the time it takes for data packets to travel from your device to a server and back. It reflects how consistently data is transmitted across your connection. High jitter can lead to disruptions in real-time applications like online gaming, video streaming, and VoIP, causing delays, lag, or poor-quality communication.
How does a ping & Jitter test work?
A ping & jitter test sends small data packets from your device to a server and measures how long it takes to get a response (ping) and the consistency of the response times (jitter). Using the Cloudflare API, these tests are run on fast, reliable servers, ensuring accurate results. The test helps identify latency and connection stability issues that can affect real-time applications like gaming, streaming, and VoIP.
What is a good Ping value?
A good ping is generally under 50ms. Anything between 50ms and 100ms is acceptable for most activities, while pings over 100ms may cause noticeable delays.
What is a good Jitter value?
A good jitter value is typically less than 20ms. High jitter (above 30ms) can cause lag, stuttering, or interruptions in activities like video calls or online gaming.
How can I reduce high Ping or Jitter?
You can reduce high ping or jitter by using a wired connection, minimizing network traffic, restarting your router, or switching to a server closer to your location.
Can a Ping & Jitter test improve my internet connection?
While a ping & jitter test itself won’t improve your connection, it can help you diagnose issues and guide you on what changes to make for better performance.
